The Rise and Fall of Empires

Empires always seem invincible just as they are about to crumble. Same happened with Microsoft. At the start of the decade, Microsoft was Dominant. The whole world was using Microsoft softwares - be it surfing the web, writing a document, watching videos or just listening to music. If you're using a computer, you are automatically a Microsoft user.

The company was Dominant but it wasn't invincible. Although it had strong presence in the world, it still had some challengers. And then, today, Microsoft is openly mocked by apple in its advertising.

Apple Mocking Microsoft Ad

Computers have become portholes to the internet. Once there, Google is the brand people know and trust. Microsoft’s products are still used but they are not life-changing.

The past decade in technology is the story of how three companies shaped our online and offline lives. So, the past decade, there was a fall of Microsoft, rise of Google and the Rebirth of Apple. Their competing fortunes and philosophies also point to what the next ten years might have in store.

Microsoft’s problems started in 2000,as spent the rest of the decade dogged by regulators and lawsuits. Perhaps distracted by these battles, Microsoft missed the fact that people were migrating online. Slow dial-up connections were replaced by super- fast broadband. The key to getting around the web was search engines, and here Google was at the forefront.

Google set off with an extraordinarily ambitious mission: to organise the world’s information and make it universally useful. Its approach was revolutionary then, but seems the norm now. It was free. It was open. Anyone could use it.

And Google eventually worked out how to make bags of money. It sold advertising alongside search results. Google became a multibillion- dollor company, a VERB, a PHENOMENON.

Apple took a different route. The company had been in the doldrums for years, but in 2001 it launched the iPod. The key to the device was simplicity. It was easy to use and allowed millions to carry around entire record collections. Today public spaces are filled with people plugged into headphones.

The iPod was also beautiful, setting the standard for design and technological innovation. The only device that had a similar impact was Apple’s own iPhone, launched in 2007. Both became the must-have products of the decade. (even I own an Ipod and would want an Iphone)

What does the success of Google and Apple say about the future? Google’s “open” model seems here to stay. This is evidenced by the rise of free social networking sites such as Orkut, Facebook and Twitter. In this new world, our privacy takes a back seat to the constant drive to make information easier to obtain.

Apple is better seen as an anomaly, a tyranny run by the genius of Steve Jobs, its chief executive. Rumours continue that it will release another “game-changing” device early next year — a touchscreen “tablet” mini-computer.

But what is Microsoft going to do...tadaa..lets wait and watch...???

Comments...

Ok, Now that I have started with this thing. I understand the importance of commenting in the blogs. Well today one of my friend asked me this question that How and Why Commenting becomes important for a Blog? Instead of replying him on a chat window, I thought it would be better I should write a detailed post on the importance of commenting for any bloggers and social media person.

  • BACKLINKS
Despite of other reasons this is the most important reason you should start commenting on other blogs. You always complain that your site is not getting enough traffic from other search engine, that is because your site is not gaining enough authority in search engines. When you comment on blogs, it helps you to create backlinks and build traffic to your blog.

  • TRAFFIC
Another important aspect of Commenting is Traffic. Commenting helps a lot to drive traffic into your blog. Though there are few things which you need to take care of, instead of adding comments like thanks nice post, try to add more values to comments. Another thing which can easily be done is take advantage of threaded wordpress comments. Reply to any question asked on any post, be it your blog or others blog. Anything which add value is appreciated by everyone.

  • SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION
Commenting in a right way can help you to optimize your blog for SEO. It will be offsite SEO and the best way to get backlinks for your blog.
SEO, there are millions of blogs and websites on Internet. SEO helps your post to appear on the prominent place in the search engine. When you search for any term, how often do you digg to search result page, after 1st page. So SEO in simple words, optimizing your content (Blog posts, websites) for search engine, so that they can be crawled and indexed effectively.

  • RELATION
Commenting is the best way to get in touch with any blogger personally. Though it takes time to create such connection but once you are regularly commenting, you will be noticed by the Admin and order co bloggers. If you think of long term, this will help you a lot in long run.

  • BETTER BLOG
Ultimately, you recieve comments either positive or negative. Critics play important part as you improve your blog and your thinking.

FRIENDS - My Fav..

Best picture ever..

Never liked a TV show like FRIENDS. This show never got the critical respect but it ran for 10 seasons and was a huge hit with the public. I myself had bought all the dvds just to keep watchin it again n again.

"Everyone can relate to the characters, whether it be to yourself or amongst your own friends". Friends found its niche throwing a group of attractive young people together in a couple of apartments in New York and providing them with endearing qualities and snappy dialogue. Everyone has a favorite "Friend" be it Ross, Rachael, Joey, Phoebe, Monica or Chandler. The show thrived by engaging viewer first in the on/off relationship between the nerdy Ross and the beautiful worldly Rachael and later, the surprise pairing of the OCD Monica and wise acre Chandler. Womanizing dumbell Joey and airhead Phoebe served up a lot of comic fodder and provided the cohesive that held them together.

Honestly - there is not another show that has allmost every situation that you would ever encounter and has the power to make you laugh with them EVEN when you're having a bad day. The characters are loveable and practical and I don't think this show would be as legendary as it is without every single one of them.
My hot crush in this series was Jeniffer Aniston, Rachel Green as she was in the series. Extremely sexy and naughty. And then who can ever forget the song "Smelly Cat" by phoebe.

Black soot and the survival of tibetian Glaciers

Stop Global Warming

On the Tibetan Plateau, temperatures are rising and glaciers are melting faster than climate scientists would expect based on global warming alone. A recent study of ice cores from five Tibetan glaciers by NASA and Chinese scientists confirmed the likely culprit: rapid increases in black soot concentrations since the 1990s, mostly from air pollution sources over Asia, especially the Indian subcontinent. Soot-darkened snow and glaciers absorb sunlight, which hastens melting, adding to the impact of global warming.

NASA climate scientists combine satellite and ground-based observations of soot and other particles in the air with weather and air chemistry models to study how the atmosphere moves pollution from one place to another. This image is from a computer simulation of the spread of black soot (“black carbon” to climate scientists) over the Tibetan Plateau from August through November 2009. It shows black carbon aerosol optical thickness on September 26, 2009. (Aerosol optical thickness is scale that describes how much pollution was in the air based on how much of the incoming sunlight the particles absorbed.) Places where the air was thick with soot are white, while lower concentrations are transparent purple.

The highest concentrations of black soot are in the right-hand side of the image, over the densely populated coastal plain of China. But high concentrations occur over India, as well, and the black soot spreads across the southern arc of the Tibetan Plateau, which is defined by the towering peaks of the Himalaya Mountains.

The black soot arises especially from diesel engines, coal use without effective scrubbers, and biomass burning, including cook stoves. Reduction of black soot via cleaner energies would have other benefits for human health and agricultural productivity. However, survival of the glaciers also requires halting global warming, which depends upon stabilizing and reducing greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide.”

What I’d rather be doing today instead of working

Somethings in life you wish to have..anytime !

Todays Quote

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.
- Anne Frank

Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who gained international fame posthumously following the publication of her diary which documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.
Her Diary was saved after the WWII and was published then later translated from its original Dutch to English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl and has become one of the world's most widely read books, and has been the basis for several plays and films. Anne Frank has been acknowledged for the quality of her writing, and has become one of the most renowned and most discussed victims of the Holocaust.
One of my Fav books too :)

GTA IV

Desperately waiting for GTA IV on my PS3

All GTAs were amazing. I remember San Andreas was a stupendous thrill ride.San Andreas definitely lives up to the Grand Theft Auto name. In fact, it's arguably the best game in the series. The storyline was awesome. CJ did some real funny shit, better than watching any Hollywood Flick.

And herez sum Fun..

Click and drag around the video. Amazing shit.

“By using a Google Streetview-like camera, a system with six lenses, not as a photo but as a video camera, an all-encompassing picture is captured.

From the point where the images were recorded, the viewer can look in any direction, let his eyes wander through the crowd, or stare at the ground or the air, which makes viewing a video an experience without boundaries.”

The Disturbing Beauty of Oversaturated Pictures
