2010 - My Top 10 Movies

All these days, I was thinking as to what to post and the year went by. So just to wrap it up I thought how about wrapping it up in my blog all in one post.
And, then I began asking people as to what do they think was the top ten things that happened in this year. I got weird answers, few cool ones and the chat continued with every other guy I was talking to. So I thought better I write what went good and what went bad. What is it that I liked, of course, I got influenced by a lot of people when it came to watching movies or listening to music. But then, it all came down to my compilation of things that I found were the top 10 of this year. Be it movies, news, music, or anything! You can comment your views and your top 10 too.

TOP 10 MOVIES

Well talking about my top 10 movies in 2010, I had listed down, n these aren’t  just any usual movie cuz I have a tendency to like only those movies which are somewhat off the league. But then I’ve tried to keep all the genres in this list.

10. KICKASS
I just loved the movie, and having been enough of superhero movies, this one doesnt seem to bore us anytime. Amazingly made, timely humor and some really nice butt kicks made me watch the movie even without any pop corn.
Dave Lizewski (Johnson) is a typical comic-loving teen who hits upon the idea of becoming a real life superhero. Dressed in a scuba diving costume and going under the name of Kick-Ass, he soon becomes a crime-fighting phenomenon, despite lacking any superpowers. Kick-Ass finds he isn’t the only superhero on the block when he runs into Hit Girl (Moretz), Big Daddy (Cage) and Red Mist (Mintz-Plasse). But local mafia boss Frank D’Amico (Strong) isn’t a fan of masked vigilantes.

BottomLine: A stylish and very funny spin on the superhero genre that plays out like Superbad meets Superman. The ultra-violent feel-good movie of the year.

9. 127 HOURS

The newest film from "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle. James Franco stars in the real-life story of a hiker trapped for five days in a deep crevasse who must cut off his own arm to survive.
It’s a real life story of hiker Aron Ralston who was hiking in Utah when a boulder falls on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon and he gets free till he cuts that sucker off. Oops ! First of all. Ask yourself if you are prepared to spend a lotta time with James Franco’s face cuz much of the movie is spent with James Franco’s face but I gotta say hes done a superb task in this film cuz he seems the kind of guy who might do something reckless like this. This character to me is not generally likeable but Franco does exude this positive energy that in the end you kind of like this dude.

Bottomline: It’s a very well made movie. Good, and yeah, bring your swiss army knife :P

8. TOY STORY 3

I was ecstatic to see Toy Story when I watched it for the first time, and the first film is still one of my favorites of all time. While Toy Story 2 is just as good, nothing holds the same nostalgia value for me as that first film. Does Toy Story 3 come close? Damn close. And with the development of the old characters, the trilogy comes to an absolutely fantastic conclusion. Where the horror elements didn't faze most kids, an apocalyptic sequence near the end had some kids near me clutching their parents' arms and had me holding back tears too. You will know it when you see it because I haven't seen anything so simultaneously epic and emotional like this.

BottomLine:
Make no mistake as you read any reviews of this thing, Toy Story 3 is the first Must-See film of 2010. Capital M, Capital S, because it is also a film that the entire family can see. And must.

7. BLACK SWAN

"Black Swan," director Darren Aronofsky's dark portrayal of a tightly wound ballerina (Natalie Portman) fending off a younger rival (Mila Kunis) while staging a production of "Swan Lake."
The movie looks to be a typical psychological drama but what makes it different is that it has these very haunting images as Portman loses hER mind, as you don’t know what’s real and what’s imaginative and at times this becomes a very effective Horror movie. Another thing to add is that they tell the plot of Swan Lake and then they make it very clear that the plot of swan lake is going to play out among the characters of the movie and from then on you know exactly what’s going to happen and it takes away from not knowing what’s going to happen next.

BottomLine : I rate it as a erotic creepy little bedtime story.

6. DABANGG

I understand that this movie should not be included in here, but then talking about my top 10, couldn’t able to resist this one. This movie creating history in Indian film industry as one of the most highest grossing film ever, definitely deserves to be on this list.
Though the movie’s storyline is no different from most of the 1980’s films, offer no novelty as films with similar plot lines – family drama, mother’s death, love story between a police officer and a simple girl, enmity between local politician and police officer, fight to finish etc. – have been seen in the past. But the presentation is so fresh, the humour is so new, the characterization of the main protagonist is so endearing, the performance of Salman Khan is so wonderful and the music is so outstanding.
What also work fabulously well are the humour and the stunts in the film. Examples of fun scenes which will evoke a lot of laughter: Chulbul Pandey breaking into a dance while doing dare-devil stunts, whenever he hears the ring tone of the mobile phone of a henchman of the villain, the ring tone being the tune of a hit song of an earlier film starring the actor (Salman Khan) himself; when Chulbul tries to woo Rajo; the high-voltage scene in which Chulbul talks about making holes in Chhedi Singh’s body. Likewise, the stunts are absolutely breathtaking and supremely mass-appealing.

BottomLine: A movie breaking all the records of Film Industry on Day1 becomes an absolutely must watch. Nothing less nothing more !

5. LET ME IN

Similar to the original in all the right ways -- but with enough changes to stand on its own -- Let Me In is the rare Hollywood remake that doesn't add insult to inspiration.
Although I don’t know whether many of you will agree with me or not, but for me, this movie stands out. It’s absolutely remarkable, and as I’ve also seen the original Swedish Film “Let the right one In” which I had loved. The movie is about a strange love relationship between 2 kids who decides to stay for each other no matter what. The child actors did a good job. Although the movie is slow but it has quite some thrilling and horror scenes in it.

BottomLine: Might not be as good as the original Swedish tale, but this is a different one on a vampire genre. Its both innocent and vicious at the same time, so watch LET ME IN.

4. SHUTTER ISLAND

Shutter Island is a 2010 American psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese. The film is based on Dennis Lehane's 2003 novel of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels, who is investigating a psychiatric facility located on the island named in the title.
At roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes, the film is way too long, and pulls too many tricks - although you'd be lying if you said you didn't fall for most. Chances are you'll guess the twist in the end, but no way you can predict how Scorsese gets there. What really goes on within those tall, dark asylum walls? Who's being kept in the isolated lighthouse? These become urgent, pressing questions begging to be answered. The line between reality and delusion, between sanity and insanity, begins to blur early on in the film when it becomes apparent that nobody - neither the psychopaths nor the psychiatrists - are being entirely honest here.

BottomLine: It's an exciting, intriguing film that demands a second viewing to fully grasp its

3.TRUE GRIT

In true grit, a precocious 14 yr old girl teams up with drunken marshal and a Texas ranger in the hunt for the man who robbed and killed her father. I can't say enough good things about True Grit. It's a western done by two of the greatest directors we have working today. Having not seen the original I really enjoyed this version.

Jeff bridges plays Rooster Cogburn as the toughest marshal of the west is amazing as a old stubborn guy who’s also good at heart, he’s a delight but at times he’s so hard to understand that I wished there had subtitles :P but still he’s a joy to watch..

Matt damon plays an expert tracker from Texas who’s happens to be trailing the same man that killed the girl’s father. Matt damon was superb as the pompous cowboy. He showed off the sophisticated style which is a rare to see in his acting otherwise in other films, plus the ability to put humor at places and in this type of movie was just amazing to watch.
Hailee Steinfeld, the girl, is the heart o the movie, the whole movie revolves around her. Did a fantastic job.

BottomLine: Beautiful, well-acted and funny. A must Watch !

2. SOCIAL NETWORK

A story about the founders of the social-networking website, Facebook. Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication.

Impeccably scripted, beautifully directed, and filled with fine performances, The Social Network is a riveting, ambitious example of modern filmmaking at its finest. I think the experience of watching this movie is so intense and so rewarding. You are engaged and afterwards you are found talking super duper fast just like all the characters in the film.

BottomLine: I enjoyed it, it’s totally WORTH seeing it!

1. INCEPTION

No surprise here, Inception is probably going to be on EVERYONES Top ten list and it deserves it. Christopher Nolan gives us a mind bending heist film like no other. Blending in the dream world with reality is always going to be a tough thing to do, but he does it with wonders! I was in awe the first time we were submerged three layers deep into the dream! How does someone create all that detail without messing up? Hats off to Nolan for writing one of the best scripts in the past decade (possibly ever) and making it into a successful movie. I'm so glad this did so well at the box office. Really goes to show that if you make a great movie people will come to it.
It's filled with a handful of talent including the always great Leonardo DiCaprio who, like usual, takes his role to an all new level. Everyone plays there part well and I really didn't have any problems with this film. The score by Hans Zimmer is also very epic and filled with emotion. "Time" is probably my favorite track as it really sums up the whole film for me.

BottomLine: I can't really force anyone to see this one as they probably already have. None the less, Inception is probably going to go down as one of the best films of this decade.

So, these were pretty much my Top 10 in movies. Will be back with some more Top 10 of 2010. Let me know how you liked them :)
